THE MYSTERY OF POL POT
Who was Pol Pot, head of the Khmer Rouge, whose tyrannical regime killed or displaced millions of people in the late 1970s and earned him a place in history as one of the 20th century's most brutal leaders. This portrait draws on archival footage and rare eyewitness accounts, including an interview with Pol Pot made just before his death by American journalist Nate Thayer. Pol Pot, whose real name was Saloth Sar, remains an enigma. No other revolutionary leader has left so few traces. This film uses previously unseen documents on his life, from his birth to his death, his studies in Cambodia and France and his complex relations with China and Vietnam.
Adrian Maben
After studying biochemistry at Oxford, Adrian Maben studied film in Rome and began writing film criticism for Sight and Sound and Films and Filming. In 1970 he launched his filmmaking career as a director for television in France and Belgium.
