NEAREST TO HEAVEN
One evening, Fanette meets Bernard whom she knew when they were students. We understand that he loved her and that she loved someone else. The name "Philippe" is pronounced. It clearly affects her and she goes off to see AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER... Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr finally find each other after having missed their rendez-vous at the top of the Empire State Building. Fanette thinks she recognizes a man in the theatre audience, perhaps Philippe, but when she tries to reach him he's gone... Fanette is writing a book on a painter. The work is nearly finished; she has just two canvases remaining to photograph in New York. A few days later, a letter left by a shadowy figure resembling Philippe asks to meet her at the top of the Empire State Building. Can this be for real or has she just imagined everything? No matter, she's hooked. She arrives in New York to find that the female photographer with whom she normally works has been replaced by a man, an American named Matt. He is charming, but her upcoming rendez-vous at the Empire State distracts Fanette and prevents her from seeing him as she otherwise would...
