THREE NIGHTS ON A SATURDAY
On a single Saturday... An upper-middle-class married couple are celebrating their wedding anniversary; a group of lower-middle-class employees have gathered to celebrate the promotion of one of them which turns out to be his firing; and a Santiago truck driver picks up a waitress and spends the night trying to find a suitable place to spend the night. Benjamin comes home with a surprise gift for his wife Quena on their wedding anniversary but the surprise is on him: she's found out that he's been cheating and she's moved all his stuff out of the bedroom and into the guest room. And to top it all a group of friends have planned a big celebration. Later that night their maid Elisa shows up with her sailor boyfriend Mirko... When he invites them to go out partying, all of Alfredo's office colleagues expect him to announce his promotion. The surprise is on them: after a long detour at a Japanese restaurant, they all go back to Alfredo's apartment where a liquor-fuelled party game elicits the information that he has in fact been fired. After the ubiquitous Mirko shows up by mistake, Alfredo chases everyone and attempts suicide... Genaro is the truck driver. He had hoped to see his favourite soccer team at the stadium but the match is sold out so he ends up watching it on a bar TV set. There he chats up Rosi the waitress and by the time her shift is over they're off looking for a room to continue their liaison. The hotels all booked, the couple ends up in a waiting room -- together with Mirko and Elisa. But the Saturday night fun is just beginning; before it's over they'll all have a rendezvous at a hospital emergency room.
Joaqu�n Eyzaguirre
Born in Santiago, Chile in 1950, Joaqu�n Eyzaguirre studied architecture at the Catholic University of Valparaiso, and music and cinema at the University of Chile. He began his filmmaking career in the early 1980s making shorts and documentaries, eventually graduating to features. Among his recent credits are the documentaries La Mesa de Chile: im�genes de un sue�o and DEL POLVO A LAS ESTRELLAS, and the fiction feature LA VIUDA DE APABLAZA.
