THE CARRIERS ARE WAITING
Roger Closset lives with his wife and two children in an industrial district on the outskirts of the city. Their neighbour Felix, who raises carrier pigeons, is obsessed with his champion bird, Napoleon. Roger works as a reporter for the local paper. By listening in to the police band on his radio, he gets scoops on various local events -- traffic accidents, the arrest of a tramp, a farmer's crops damaged by hail -- to which he rushes on his motorbike, usually accompanied by his 8-year-old daughter Luise. But the routine is grinding Roger down and for the new millennium he's looking for something bigger. He finds it in a contest sponsored by the shopkeepers' association. Set a new world record -- any feat will do -- and he'll win a car. Roger decides on the record for opening a door: 40,000 times in 24 hours. He conscripts his 15-year-old son Michel to beat it. Michel is not thrilled with the idea but Roger is utterly gung ho. He sets up a door frame in the garden and brings in a trainer. Michel's preparation will be thoroughly scientific."A decidedly offbeat, disarmingly funny, melancholy comedy... a thoroughly pleasant surprise." -- Kenneth Turan (Los Angeles Times)
