STAND-BY
They leave the cafeteria at Orly airport and head for their plane. After having lived together for five years, Grard and Hlne are flying to Buenos Aires where they intend to begin a new life. Or so Hlne thinks. Grard has other ideas. Right there at the check-in counter, he informs her that he's leaving her, that he doesn't love her any longer, that he's going to Argentina alone. Hlne is stunned. She doesn't understand. She tries to reason with him, but his mind is made up; when the plane leaves, only Grard is on it. Alone in the airport with just her baggage for company, Hlne is lost. A shy, introverted woman, she wanders about trying to get her bearings. But soon she finds old friends and makes new ones, like Marco the waiter at the caf. She becomes a hooker; Orly becomes her beat. She discovers a new world at the airport, a world of glass and steel. Slowly she makes it her own..."For his debut feature, Roch Stephanik had the excellent idea of casting talented actors and allowing them the freedom they need. They are the ones who give the film its humanity." -- Edouard Waintrop (Libration)
