SPONSORS OFFICIAL STATEMENT For immediate distribution - Wednesday, August 7th, 2002 THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL 2002 RECEIVES $115 000 FROM THE FONDS DE D�VELOPPEMENT DE LA M�TROPOLE THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL 2002 RECEIVES $115 000 FROM THE FONDS DE D�VELOPPEMENT DE LA M�TROPOLE Montr�al, August 6, 2002 � Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Greater Montr�al, the Environment and Water Andr� Boisclair today announced a $115 000 grant from the Fonds de d�veloppement de la m�tropole to the World Film Festival 2002, to help facilitate marketing, especially outside Qu�bec. From August 22 to September 2, the WFF will present feature films from roughly 60 countries, numerous short and medium-length films, along with films made for television. Several hundred films will be shown, offering movie buffs an opportunity to enjoy a veritable world tour. The WFF shows films classified in various sections. In addition to the Official Competition, non-competing films and the �World Cinema: Reflections of Our Time� section, other sections focus specifically on �Cinema of Tomorrow: New Trends,� �Latin American Cinema,� and �Panorama Canada.� The 26th WFF will also feature Japanese and African films, as well as student films and videos. �The World Film Festival is one of the high points of Montr�al's summer festival season. For over 25 years, it has contributed to the city's cultural, economic and tourism development and broadened its influence abroad.
