Synopsis
While his mother, Mariana, an undocumented Mexican immigrant, works long days cleaning houses, her 13-year-old autistic son Ricky, highly imaginative but painfully isolated, struggles to cope. They live in Queens along with Ricky’s rebellious older sister, Carla, and semi-absent father, Ricardo Sr. When Carla doesn’t pick him up from school one day, Ricky wanders into the subway and embarks on a voyage of self-discovery. The days pass with no sign of Ricky. A hurricane is forecast and his family is getting anxious...
Director
After graduating from Wesleyan University in cinema, Sam Fleischner worked as a projectionist at Anthology Film Archives in New York before co-directing (with Ben Chace) WAH DO DEM in 2008, and a solo short, Faro (2012). STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS, his first solo feature, won the special jury prize at the 2013 Tribeca Festival.
