Synopsis
Not all sectors of Chinese society are participating in the country's economic boom. In southern Beijing, Lao Li and his family are struggling to get by, mainly on social benefits. Wanting a better future for his son Kai, Li works illegally as a taxi driver in order to pay the boy's tuition in a vocational school. And Li's own father scavenges local garbage for items to sell. Things become dire when when Li's social benefits are cancelled. A proud man, Li rejects compromise, preferring confontation instead. This is a road with no return...

Born in Beijing, China in 1981, Yu Liu graduated in film direction from the Central Academy of Drama in China. He has worked as a screenwriter and director in Chinese television. THE BLINDING SUNLIGHT marks his debut in features.
