Synopsis

Portly Suso, a newspaper vendor fallen on hard times, now depends on loans from his father-in-law, and is largely supported by his long-suffering spouse Carmen. Out fishing one evening with his friend, widowed, struggling real estate salesman Manuel, the pair find a substantial stash of cocaine bobbing in the waves. Manuel recruits a corrupt young cop to help him cash in on the bonanza, but Suso, who has seen his son trying to score coke in a club, is conflicted about the find. When the cop brings a notorious drug dealer into the picture, the strain begins to show, not only on Suso and Manuel's friendship. "An involving, minor key drama on the effects of the financial crisis on a couple of Spanish 40-somethings, the unexpectedly satisfying HERE'S THE DEAL is packed with small, good things. A simply-told tale for our times, buoyed by a cast of well-played, credible characters and delivering a solid emotional punch, the film’s apparently easy-going nature conceals much edgy contemporary social comment. Director

Born in Vigo, Spain in 1979, Alejandro Marzoa studied digital imaging and began teaching cinema in Barcelona before launching a career in filmmaking. His four short films, Temporada 92-93 (2006), Cucharada (2009), Padre modelo (2009) and Amistad (2010), have screened at many international festivals, garnering several awards. HERE'S THE DEAL marks his directorial debut in features.
