Synopsis

Exceptionally gifted and obsessed with chess, Nico is a difficult teenager. He has problems adapting socially and is defiant to everyone, especially to his father. Carlos and his wife decide to hire the services of Julio, a renowned psychologist experienced in working with special children. Julio himself happens to be a chess master. Through therapy and their common love of chess, Julio plunges into Nico’s inner world to comprehend the boy's tense and complex relationship with his father. He makes some disquieting discoveries.

 

Director

Born in Tarragona, Spain in 1967, Jesús Monllaó Plana earned a masters in media production from Christ Church University in Canterbury, England, and has directed films since 2000. Among his credits: La mirada oblicua (2000), Gloria (2002), El legado (2004), The Kuleshov Effect, Faces of California (2007). SON OF CAIN is his first feature.
