I'M SERGE LOSIQUE

From a distance
somebody is smiling at me.
We are in an airport bus
it shakes, swings.
We both stand.
The next moment the man seems to fall -
but suddenly is standing next to me
like a cut to close-up.
With a smiling curiosity,
shy and determined,
and with a unique accent in a scratchy voice
he says his name.
And calls me by my name.
I'm an unknown filmmaker
with one film "C�leste".

I forgot about him.
But, strange enough,
we met again in an airport bus
that swung and shook,
and the whole scene re-played.
But this time I knew more about
the vanity fair of film and fests,
and I knew that this is
the real deal
the genuine, indestructible
lover of films
on a Mission: possible -
to bring the movies he loves
and the makers he encourages with so few words
to the show he created;
to bring the whole world together
just by swinging around an airport bus pole.

Thank you Serge for never giving up. Thank you for your little twinkle before you led me to the room where they announced that my "Salmonberries" had won your top award. Thank you for inviting me into your jury, and to your house in the country. I'm your fan!
