The Montreal World Film Festival is not like Cannes or Berlin or other big festivals. Even, if it is full of guests and journalists, you do not feel it is overcrowded. You can move and watch films in comfort and peace.

And another remark: I attended the Montreal Festival twice; in 1987 and in 1994. Each time I was struck by the large number of viewers, who lined up see films from different countries, very often made by unknown directors, exotic films without typical action, but which were trying to give audiences artistic and intellectual satisfaction. Then I understood that if people are given a chance, they will chose beautiful, serious and sometimes difficult films over cheap B-class movies.
