JERRY SCHATZBERG
USA

I set off from New York to Montreal by car, with a friend of mine who made experimental films. After a long and tiring journey, we entered the city at midnight as if going into a dream. We passed over bridges full of lights and looked for our hotel for a long time. The streets were empty. Finally by coincidence we encountered a tramp and when I asked where our hotel could be, he said: "Right, that sh..tty hotel? You're in front of it." We were indeed right in front of a glorious five-star hotel.

A young man on shift was dozing in the wide and silent reception area of the hotel. He looked surprised and pleased to see me. "Erden Bey," he said in Turkish, "We've waited for you all day. Welcome." To meet someone speaking Turkish thousands kilometers from my country surprised me as well. Turks have spread all around the world I remember having been warmly hosted during the festival. I remember the ceaseless energy of Serge Losique (he was younger then!) very well balanced by the calm attitude of Danile Cauchard

I wish all the success to my friends at the festival and good times with joy and well being.
