Synopsis
In the 1930s, a young Austrian woman, Katharina Walser, comes to Switzerland to work as a waitress in hopes of starting a new life and finding happiness. At first her dreams seem to come true. She falls in love with a local forester, Tres, she moves in with him and they get married. But when her son dies tragically in a lumbering accident, blame and mistrust drives the couple apart. The family is ostracized in the Alpine village, for Katharina does not conform to their idea of morality and propriety. After some trouble in town the malificent mayor orders the authorities to intervene. The family's children are taken away and Katharina is committed to an insane asylum. While she endures a prolonged stay in a psychiatric ward, her husband lands in prison, resulting in hell on earth for everyone concerned... Based on a true story.
Director
Born in Oberriet, Switzerland in 1952, Kuno Bont is a filmmaker, journalist and author and theatre director. In 2004 he founded his own production company, Tukan Film Productions Werdenberg. His directorial filmography includes many documentaries, including Bal a l’üna – Paula RotH (2009), Königstreffen (2010), Herzstark (2010) and Gardi - Die Unendlichkeit des Spiels (2011). DAS DECKELBAD marks his debut in fiction features.
