Synopsis
He is a plain real estate agent who lives his uneventful life in the anonymous suburb of an unspecified city. Indeed his firm facade of “compulsive ordinariness” may be concealing an autistic condition. As part of his efforts at constructing the illusion of an ideal world, he organizes a daily pantomime of the “perfect neighbourhood”, all painstakingly staged by a group of hired walk-on people. While this artifice seems to help him fulfill his unexpressed dream of love, a harsh, overwhelming reality forces him to give up his illusions and eventually get in touch with the imperfect human dimension. THE PLASTIC CARDBOARD SONATA is a story of urban loneliness, featuring lyric suggestions in the context of an ironic frame. It sketches out the malaise of daily life -- but also its small pleasures -- through ordinariness and silence.
