Synopsis

In the south, the heat, a storm. A vacation, a crime, adultery. Maria, Pierre, their daughter Judith and a friend, Louise, are forced to stop for the night in a small village, the summer deluge putting their final destination out of reach. A rumour. On the same night, in the same village, a man, Nabil Malek, has killed his wife and her lover. He has gone missing. As her marriage is on the verge of collapsing, Maria accidentally meets the fugitive. Together, they embark on a fatal escape to the coast with the hope of changing their destinies. “The book dates from 1960 and deals with somewhere in the different way that the proletariat and the bourgeoisie behave facing adultery: the first may kill while the second group often accept a transfer of affections of love without jealousy, "intelligently" . I wanted examine the political dimension of the love triangle in Duras, I wanted to explore it through the character of Nabil, who is no longer a local farmer as in the original book but a Maghreb worker who married a Frenchwoman and is forced to recross the Mediterranean, back to where he came from, where he escaped from when he emigrated.” -- Fabrice Camoin

 

Director

After studying architecture, Fabrice Camoin apprenticed as an assistant director with several established filmmakers, including Jean-François Stévenin, Werner Schroeter, Michel Piccoli, Laurence Ferreira Barbosa and Léa Fazer. His own two directorial efforts, the short films Destination and L’Autre rive, were shown at numerous festivals as well as on French television. STORM WITHIN marks his directorial debut in features.
