Synopsis
Despite hundreds of hours of material featuring Václav Havel, the celebrated Czech writer, philosopher, dissident and statesman, a true film biography of this great European personality had not yet been made. Havel’s colourful life – his family, his childhood, his loves, his playwriting career and his famous political engagement – is captured in an intimate new documentary. The film traces Havel through his various roles and life stages, including those of intellectual rebel, admirer of women, lover of life, and a fan of the underground and rock music.
Director
Born in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1967, Andrea Sedlácková has worked extensively in Czech television and cinema as an editor and screenwriter. Her own directorial credits include VICTIMS AND MURDERERS (2000), SEDUCER (2002), JOYEUX NOËL (2005), A BEAUTIFUL TIME (2006) and FAIR PLAY (2014, winner of the audience award at the Chicago Festival).
