Synopsis

A CHANCE TO DRESS explores the complexity of gender expression through the story of MIT professor emeritus and open cross-dresser Dr. John "Tephra" Southard. The film follows his difficulties in coming out to his friends, neighbours and colleagues, but also his sense of liberation after a lifetime of secrecy. Southard's journey weaves a story that intersects gender presentation, acceptance, the immutability of established institutions and the ultimate affirmation of the human spirit.

 

Director

American filmmaker Alice Bouvrie earned her master's in film production from Boston University and began making documentaries, as a producer and director, in 1993. Her feature directorial credits include IDITAROD: A FAR DISTANT PLACE (2000), PRISON PUPS (2006) and THY WILL BE DONE (2010).
