Synopsis
In London, fresh off the boat from Trinidad and full of fairytale fantasies, 15-year-old Layla is swept off her feet by self-styled gang leader/rapper Troy. But in this dog-eat-dog world where being Troy’s girl buys her envy as well as status, social outsider Shaun becomes her only true friend. When Troy discards her, Layla is left in ruins. She vows to rebuild herself as a hardened player in order to win him back and Shaun becomes a pawn in her game. Soon the forces she has set in motion are escalating out of control.
Director
London-based writer-director Rebecca Johnson studied fine arts before launching her filmmaking career at the start of the millennium. Her short films, widely shown, include That Sinking Feeling (2001), One Minute Miracles (2003), Home Turf (2008), Top Girl (2009) and Electric (2010). HONETRAP, her first feature, was shown at the BFI London Festival and at SXSW in Austin.
