Synopsis
Eight-year-old Chiaki has lost her much-loved father very suddenly and moves with her broken-hearted mother into an apartment at the Poplars where she meets an intriguing old landlady. The old lady tells Chiaki, who is feeling anxious and insecure after the loss of her father, that she is able to take letters to dead people. Believing her story, Chiaki quietly writes down her brimful of thoughts to her father in heaven and leaves the letter with the peculiar old lady. He’s suddenly not so far away...
Director
Born in Ehime prefecture in 1975, Japanese director and screenwriter Kenichi Omori made his feature debut, FUN WRITING LIGHT NOVEL, in 2010. He followed that with SAMURAI PIRATES in 2014. THE LETTERS is a work he had in mind to film since his student days.
