Synopsis
A former war photographer tries to dispel his personal ghosts by only taking pictures of trees. He lives alone among olive trees in southern Italy. One day he decides to cross the sea to Albania, where he visits the place where he took his last war photo, as if he were retracing his steps. He finds a tree he wants to photograph. He is just about to do so, when he discovers a girl hiding in it. Her lover was killed by her brothers. So she’s run away. Photographing trees won’t help her...
Director
Born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1954, Pierre Maillard trained in graphics and the performing arts before launching his filmmaking career in 1984 with CAMPO EUROPA. Among his subsequent films: POISSONS (1987), 7 FUGITIVES (1993), CHRONIQUE (1997), POTLACH (2001), UN HOMME SANS HISTOIRE (2004), Alain Tanner, pas comme si, comme ça (2007), LE PAYSAGE INTÉRIEUR (2010).
