Synopsis
Turkey after the military coup in the 1980s. Muzaffer and his pregnant wife Melek, a militant couple, live at the house of Muzaffer’s father, Celal, who was expelled from the army. When Muzaffer and Melek are arrested, Muzaffer disappears and is presumed dead, and following her torture by the police, Melek gives birth to a disabled child Devrim (”Revolution”). Celal holds Melek responsible for everything, chases her away and refuses to let her see her older boy, Deniz. It will be years before Deniz will get to reunite with his new brother and mother. Can time really heal all wounds?
Director
Born in Germany in 1981, Baris Atay studied biology in university but switched when he won a scholarship to study theatre. He pursued his studies in cinema and TV at the University of Kadir Has and helped create the Emek Sahnesi theatre company where he continues his stage career. In 2014 he founded Barikat Film. He directed a short, Via Police in 2011. LACK is his first feature.
