Synopsis
In Mariotto, a "cultural enclave" in the province of Bari, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Arabs and Mariottans must learn to live side by side. Suspicions and fears are commonplace and getting to know each other is a complicated and bizarre affair. The conficts exacerbate on Good Friday: an accident prevents Michele, the vain hairdresser of the town, from playing the role of Jesus in the Way of Sorrows, and, due to a strange set of circumstances, a young Muslim takes his place. A Muslim carrying the cross of Christ down the streets of a village of bigots? Things will get interesting...
Director
Born in Bitonto, Bari in 1980, Mimmo Mancini began his professional career at 17 as an actor.. After training at the Piccolo Theatre in Bari he played with local companies then acted nationally on TV. He then studied cinema, write two theatre pieces and began directed short films, including Shine on the Sea, Arroganti, U su’ and One Direction. AMELUK marks his debut in features.
